A Thousand Paper Cranes

The crane is a mythical creature in Japan and is said to live for a thousand years. That is why one thousand origami cranes, 千羽鶴、senbazuru, are made, one for each year. In some stories, it is believed that the cranes must be completed within one year, and they must all be made by the person (or group of people) for one to make a wish at the end.

The story of a thousand cranes was told to me by my obaachan who taught me the importance of selflessness and to always be grateful of love ones whether that be. family, friends, or those of importance to us in our lives. At the end of the day when you feel like you have no one, when you are overwhelmed with hopelessness, or when you feel like there is no way out of the abyss you are currently chained to, these people will be the ones to show unconditional kindness, support, and love.
