Archetypes

Persona & Shadow - Stepping into the second half of the Surrealist movement, fashion in the thirties found itself developing in a unique and new path. Women, once again, had reversed back to the elegance-and-glamour emphasized looks from the classic roarin’ twenties silhouette, with open backs and a twinge of old hollywood glam. For Archetype, an additional flair of surrealistic elements, which were up and coming during that time, are added into the vision as well.

In order to portray the decade and movement in a modernized approach, we took a more conceptual approach in utilizing psychologist Carl Jung’s theory on the Jungian archetypes, specifically the Persona and the Shadow. We believe that it reflects the modern society in a unique way, as the Persona reflects the mask that we put on to fit into the standards of society, while the Shadow represents the suppressed self that we put away for the sake of conformity.
